  • Write your own review of How to Train Your Dragon and give it a star rating!
  • How to Train Your Dragon was adapted, with many changes, into a highly successful computer-animated film adaptation in 2010.

  • Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was an awesome sword-fighter, a dragon-whisperer and the greatest Viking Hero who ever lived. But it wasn't always like that.

In fact, in the beginning, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was the most put upon Viking you'd ever seen. Not loud enough to make himself heard at dinner with his father, Stoick the Vast; not hard enough to beat his chief rival, Snotlout, at Bashyball, the number one school sport and CERTAINLY not stupid enough to go into a cave full of dragons to find a pet... It's time for Hiccup to learn how to be a Hero.

The Ghost Box

  • Fisher, Catherine. The Ghost Box. Barrington Stoke, 2012. ISBN 9781842999875

The Ghost Box

  • Catherine Fisher

  • Catherine Fisher has been shortlisted for lots of awards and her bestseller Incarceron was chosen by The Times as its Children's Book of the Year.

  • Sarah finds herself responsible for freeing the soul of a frustrated ghost, who will punish her severely if she fails. Everything depends on her unlocking the strange silver box that appeared in her room one night. But will freeing the ghost turn out to be a huge mistake? And why is Matt, her weird Goth stepbrother, so interested in the box? This is a cracking ghost story, a supernatural tale that will make readers want to leave the light on!

  • Peirce, Lincoln. Big Nate: The Boy with the Biggest Head in the World. HarperCollins, 2012. ISBN 9780007355167

Big Nate: The Boy with the Biggest Head in the World

  • Lincoln Peirce
  • Write your own review of Big Nate: The Boy with the Biggest Head in the World and give it a star rating!
  • Lincoln Peirce's work inspired Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series of books.

  • Meet classic comic-strip character Big Nate, the Boy with the Biggest Head in the World, as he stars in his own super-funny series. Big-head Nate Wright truly believes he is destined for greatness! He's a table tennis champ, a genius comic book artist and the self-proclaimed king of his class. One school morning, Nate barely survives his Dad's toxic porridge before rushing off to school, forgetting his lunch. He thinks he has a test and he hasn't studied for it! Nate's class notes are full of doodles but sadly lacking any useful information! On the way to school he accidentally body slams his head teacher, then, during his first lesson of the day, he manages to insult his least favourite teacher, Mrs. Godfrey (aka Godzilla). But a little thing like having-the-worst-day-ever won't hold back The Boy with the Biggest Head in the World!

2012 Shortlist Announced

The timetable for the Phoenix Book Award has changed, so there will be no award in 2011.

The 2012 shortlist has just been announced (Autumn 2011), and School Librarians and Teachers are busy preparing to take part.

In January and February 2012, Lambeth pupils from years 6 and 7 will be reading, reviewing and discussing the books.

Pupils were asked to think about which books would appeal to Year 6 and Year 7 pupils, some of whom might be reluctant readers; which books would get these pupils excited about reading; and what could be a potential WINNER.

Find out which of the shortlisted titles will win by attending the Finale Event to be hosted by Lambeth Libraries on World Book Day, 1 March 2012 - check back here for details or e-mail us via the contact page on our website.
