The book that I am reviewing today is The Escape written by the fantastic Robert Muchamore. It is the first book in the Henderson's Boys series which were only published in 2009. I have read both of the books in the series and they are truly amazing.
The Escape is an action-packed thriller set in World War Two with a classy and funny touch to it. It follows the life of twelve year old Marc Kilhgour, a French boy who was abandoned at a train station as a baby and bought up in a strict orphanage. After nearly twelve years at the grim orphanage, he ran away and his life suddenly became very exciting. He stumbles across a British spy and his world turns upside down. Marc finds himself millimetres away from a slow, slow German death.
I completely love the way Robert Muchamore creates suspense in the story using description. For example, the following quote illustrates this: “Henderson was closing on the bottom of the hill and there was a tight turn just ahead. If they didn’t make it, he was going to crash into the metal fence before careering over the handlebars and slamming head first into a wall without a crash helmet.”
How are you going to know what is going to happen? That definitely makes you carry on reading.
The main character (Marc) is a brave and intelligent boy, who forms a close friendship with the spy, Henderson. The way the author describes Marc you can imagine his personality in real life when the war was going on.
The book certainly follows in the footsteps of the earlier series called Cherub, also written by Muchamore. I recommend you read these after you have read the Henderson Boys. He wrote his first book for his nephew who could not find anything he liked reading.
I met Robert Muchamore in a bookshop and he signed my copy of the Escape for me. What makes these books so good is that he worked as a private investigator. He lives in London, supports Arsenal FC and loves chocolate, Las Vega and the smell of emulsion paint.
I can’t wait for Robert’s next book in the Henderson Boy’s series called Secret Army which is due out in Spring 2010.

'The Escape' is set in france 1940.Two british children and they're dad are on the run, trying to get south because of the war.
At the same time they are being hunted by german agents because they have some important files.
british spy charles henderson is trying to reach them first, but needs help to do so.
Marc,a french orphan, has run away from his terrible orphanage after a horrible beating. A german bomb gives him the opportunity to escape with the directors bike and some money, and Marc may be able to help Charles Henderson.
I like this book because you can never get bored and you are always breathing heavily at the end of every chapter.
Scary, exciting and addictive 'The Escape' is a must read

MY BOOK REPORT OF THE ESCAPE BY ROBERT MUCHAMORE !
Robert has created a great book on the World War 2 crisis. You can actually visualise the scenes in your mind, due to the fact that Robert has put so much detail in his writing. He has used a variety or/& a range of complex sentences. (My teacher says there dead important).
Robert has also written the awesome cherub series. He has created a book about a boy called marc who was abandoned to an orphanage away from the cities in France. He escaped to a large city with money, he then broke into a fantastic house not knowing a British spy lives there. German spies broke into the house, unfortunately marc didn’t know anything & they tortured him. Meanwhile a boy called Paul & his sister Rosie were on the run with their dad escaping to Tours that was brief an entry on this book. The detail of this book is immense!!
Robert Muchamore got his first Saturday job at a camera shop in the 1980’s to buy his own word processor and jump start his career in writing .Sadly his books were a bit bogus. In 2001 Muchamore created a book that eventually became the recruit he then made it into the first of his great cherub series. In 2008 he created THE ESCAPE. He is now working on his final book. The last book is called the SECRET ARMY.

I like this book escape because it talks about when people were in the army like young children. They were British, Germens and French soldieries and they fought against each other. All of those agents and spies. The book cover has a lot of different mixtures of colures like white, a bit of orange. If you know a person who fought in the war a long-time ago or know about how Germany controlled France, you’ll love this book. And its for like older children.

I like The Escape because of the action and the way the author chose his words. Also I like the book because of the front cover, the colour, and the picture of the HB with the wings. The reason I said that is it tells you about the story a little bit and it makes people want to read it.

The Escape is filled with great ideas, the front cover doesn't give you an idea of what the book is about, making the reader want to take a look inside .At the beggining of the novel,it gives us no clue to wear the book is set i think this gives the author a chance to lure us into the book and not make it boring, giving away the plot. Reading further into the book, i discovered there were two parts to the story, one half was about a 12 year old orphane named Marc who was trying to escape the maltreatment he gets from his director and the other children. The other half of the novel, is about a boy named Paul he and his family are trying to flee the country escaping the war , in conclusing of the book i think it is a great novel for everyone above the age of 12 . I GIVE THIS BOOK 5 OUTOF 5

This book shows two sides of the German invasion in World War 2. The
book tells you about how the german invasion started from two different
people. The first side was about a young orphan farm boy called Marc, who works for a man named director Tomas. He was treated badly for something he did not do. The other side was about a man named Mr Clark and his 2 children the were trying to escape from the horrible war. When you first look at the cover it does not give out as much information as it does when you read the book. This book is really interesting and you get feel and understand what happened in World War 2. WOW!!!!!!

the escape is a good book, but at first the book was quie dull, and boring because it was just about war, but when i got further into the book, i started to enjoy it. There was alot of blood in it but i quite like that. at the begining of the book there was swaring in it but i think that the way the author wrote it was ok. I would`nt say that the book was the best book in the world, but i fond it quite interesting. I also think that the book is more for adults because, of the time it is set. When i was going to hate the book, and i really did not want to carry on, but i did, and i really, and i reaised that the book was really good, because i like the fact the author can talk about war, and blood in a funny way.

The book I am reading is about two children whom embark on an traumatic , yet exciting journey, while Hitler's army gradually advance across Paris. The Clark family are fleeing to England for a brand new lifestyle.as the notorious,British spy,Charles Henderson tries to reach the Clarke's destination, but is delayed when he finds out that a German soldier is already there claiming that he is Henderson.
On the other hand way across the other side of town ,a French orphan had just escaped an orphanage and as night dawns down on Paris he finds what seems an abandoned house and sleeps . What he doesn't know is that he is sleeping in the house of a British spy...I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys action whether old or young because I loved it and you might too.

The book that im reading is
about different sorts of characters like when little Hugo got shot it was just devastating and really sad but we all have
to leave it in the past and get on with our life, like when Paul and Rosie go to England.
Marc could not go because
his passport was not there.
Rosie and Paul and Mr clarke
started off well in England.
I would like to recommend this cool book to people who
love books.

The book I was reading was The Escape. It was about a family and a teenage orphane called Marc Kilogour who runs away from his broken down and bombed orphanage and breakes into a house. That's when the adventure of his life begins: shooting Germans, blowing up motobikes and buildings and watching people die right at front of him.The family, Paul, Rosie and their father also have to go through hell, to get to England. They have to go through getting bombed and watching a little boy at the age of six get shot and die. This book is an adventure of a lifetime it takes you back to the days when Hitler occupied Paris it was so bad that Marc, only 12, hated him so much planned a revenge on him and his embassy, possibly suceeding.I would say this book is for fascinated teenagers and kids could possibly read it but expect some rude words and swearing although very funny. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book and I would say you should get your hands on one of these books I'm sure there will be no regrets.

I enjoyed the plot and historical details a lot, but found the violence a bit too much for me to stomach at times (especially when horrible things happened to characters that I had begun to care about) so I had to skim some paragraphs. I felt the main girl character's 'voice' did not always ring true with what I would expect a girl to say / think & this led to an interesting discussion in our Readers' Club about whether or not male authors can write authentic female characters (& vice versa).

This is billed as the first in a series of books set during the Second World War from the writer of the slightly controversial Cherub books, and it has the feel of something quite big and satisfying. Three children are caught up in the fall of France in 1940: the first is Marc, a 12-year-old on the run from his brutal orphanage; the other two are Rosie and Paul, two English schoolchildren living in Paris with a father who reveals himself to be more than a radio salesman when their preparations to flee the city are interrupted by an Abwehr agent with a gun. He’s looking for some blueprints.
The book was good but im not into war as too much people die in a war...
People say that the world is going to end as the population is rapidly dropping,if so they should try to stop the war instead costantly fighting!
